A vein ablation, also called thermal ablation, laser ablation or radiofrequency procedure, is a procedure done by a physician requiring very little anesthesia. It is done by in an outpatient setting. The doctor inserts a special catheter into the vein. The catheter then heats the vein from the inside causing it to no longer carry blood.
